Advanced Group (Third and Last Entry)

My third and last entry with the advanced group.

The class started with the warm up that consisted in sharing information about some questions. After it, I opened the class checking vocabulary from a reading the students developed during the previous class. To do that, I asked them to reread the article and I gave to some of them markers to write the new words on the board. When they finished to write the new words, we checked them together and we continued with the next activity, but before to start with it, I gave a short explanation about prefixes and suffixes because the activities in which they were going to work on were related to it. In the book they had only three examples so I added some others. Then I addressed them to work in the first activity in which they had to combine some suffixes with some words from a list to form adjectives and later they had to create their own sentences. After they finished that part, I asked to some of them to share their sentences. In the next activity, they only had to complete a chart but this time using prefixes.  At the end, I knew that it was not my best class but I said thanks to all of them because it was a really nice experience to work with that group. They were always a participative group!

Advanced Group (Second Entry)

This second class I arrived on time so I could prepare better my things before the class started.  The first activity was the warm up that consisted in joining some sentences. They had different sentences in some pieces of paper. Their goal was to look for one extra sentence to complement the one they already had.

For example, one of the students could have had at the end the following two sentences:

Ex: You did not go to the party. Everyone else had a great time.      

After every of them got the two sentences I asked them to tell me a regret. For example if they had the following two sentences: 

You did not go to the party. Everyone else had a great time.

The possible regrets could have been one of the next ones:

Regret: I should have gone to the party or I shouldn’t have stayed at home last night.

After it, I continued with the first activity in which they had to complete sentences always using past modals. The sentences were dictated so then I pasted a chart with the sentences on the board because in this way they could check their mistakes. They checked the sentences, and then they started to work on them. When they finished, I gave markers to some of them and later asked then to pass to the front to complete the sentences in the chart. At the end we checked then together and that was my class because I did not have enough time to continue with the next activity.

Advanced Group (First Entry)

I had my first class with the advanced group on Friday.  I have to say that  I did not feel really comfortable because I arrived a little late to the classroom and so that I had to start the class in a hurry. Even though that, I started the class with the warm up as always. This time I decided to develop the famous “hot potato”.

After it, I explained the use of linkers or connectors because I had to work with some activities where the students were going to use them. After that short explanation, I asked them to work out in the first activity that was a short paragraph in which they had to use some linkers from a box. When I asked them to share the solved paragraph, I noticed that they still were having problems with the use of the linkers.  So at that moment, I tried to explain them by giving them some other examples.

Later, they had to work on the second activity where they had to choose one of two linkers that were presented as options. This time it was easier for them because they had the options.

The final activity was even easier for them because they were just going to match some sentences using the correct linkers. At the end I can say that it was a really nice class and the only advice from the teacher during the feedback was that I have to correct the pronunciation and mistakes that the students make when they give an opinion or participate during the class.
