This new period I am teaching to the group of advanced students, and as
it was my first class with them I started by introducing myself and then I developed
the really famous warm up activity hot potato. During the activity the student,
who got the ball, had to answer a question related to the topic they were studying.
After that, I continued with the second activity where I asked them to
work in trios. The activity consisted in
complete a paragraph with some words in a box. Then they had to read again the
paragraph and discuss some questions related to it. When they finished the discussion in trios, I
asked some of them to share their ideas with the whole class, but when they
were sharing it, the other students started talking and did not pay attention
to the one speaking. Another problem with this activity was that I could not
listen to some of them because they did not speak loud, but my mistake was
getting closer in order to listen to them in a better way because they started
speaking even lower. During my feedback, the teacher talked to me about it, and
advised me to try to go far and not closer of the students when they are giving
their opinion. In this way they are going to try to speak loud, and not lower
as they do if we get closer to them.
Then I asked then to work on the book, but first they had to read a
short information about verb patterns to later work in the exercises. Unfortunately
when we were solving the exercises, I made a mistake in one of them because I
was not sure about the use of the verb in that sentence. After this incident, we
finished to work on the book; and I started to introduce just one part of the
second grammar notes because I did not have more time. If you have read my
other blogs, you are going to notice that one of my biggest problems is setting
the time for the different activities so my question is can you help me giving
me an advise to overcome this problem??? Please!!!
