My second Class…

Even though I know I continue making some mistakes and I have things to improve I want to share with you that my second teaching experience was better. I think it was because I took in consideration every detail that the teacher mentioned me during the feedback. I arrived early to the classroom and even though I could not rearrange the desks because of the small classroom, I tried to create a good atmosphere since the beginning by greeting them. This time, I felt not as nervous as the first time because this time I knew how the group works. Let me tell you that they are a really good group and you are going to enjoy working with them if you have the opportunity because they are always eager to participate giving their opinions and during the activities. The name of the unit is TASTE so the warm up activity was related with food. I divided the class in 2 groups and asked to choose a representative. Every group had the opportunity to choose a piece of paper with the name of a food and describe it in order that the representative guessed the word. The activity was a success because the students had fun, and at the same time they put into practice their skills when describing things, but at the end I faced a problem because I did not take into consideration the time and I could not develop the last activity. Well, after that I continued with my class. The teacher had already given them the grammar part, but I had to make a short review before starting with the practice.  I asked them about what they remembered about the last class and they easily answered me. The topic was about “Fronting” and “Inversions”. During the practice they had to work in pairs. Again, they had doubts about the meaning of some words, and as I had looked for the meaning, I could help them. Then they developed a speaking activity in their books, but I did not have time to finish it. My recommendation: be careful with the time!!!

  1. Well, making mistakes is how we learn. Otherwise, we would not learn anything. See it as a window of learning. I like the way you managed the class. Fronting and inversions is a complex topic, but reviewing is always ok to reinforce students. I congratulate you for doing your best. Keep doing always your best to improve day by day. :) Cheers.

  3. It is nice to know that you got a better experience! I'm really glad of it! and also it is good to take into consideration every detail that the teacher mentions during the feedback. Time is our enemy when teaching, as you said...be careful with time and just as a comment, when you are teaching new things or unit, try to have a huge vocabulary on hands. It could be printed or electronic. Try to go forward and predit or guess the words that students could find difficult to understand or use! Keep on doing it great!!

And you are right, we have to be careful with time. when you check the time you realize that your take more time that you want, so you run for the next activity. it happens to me in the first class. but im happy that you did it well. congratulation my friend.
